ALSO KNOWN AS: Common Marigold, Han-and-chickens, Gerden Marigold, and Ruddles

BOTANICAL NAME: Calendula Officinalis

DESCRIPTION: Calendula Officinalis is a short-lived aromatic herbaceous perennial, growing 2.5 feet tall, with sparsely branched lax or erect stems. The leaves are oblong-lanceolate, 2-7 inches long, hairy on both sides, and with margins entire or occasionally waved or weakly toothed.

NAME STORY: Pot Marigold: The common name of pot marigold is derived from the combination of mary and gold because the gold flowers that bloomed during the festivals of the Virgin Mary in Renaissance times were often used in cooking.

INTERESTING FACTS: According to legend, pot marigold was the flower that informed Virgin Mary of her pregnancy, so people born with this kind of flower blessing have maternal love and are full of all-embracing tenderness.
